How I work

Most of what goes wrong on a project comes from not talking enough at the start. So we talk — properly, at length — before I quote a penny.

How it runs

Five steps, no surprises

Five steps, no surprises

01

We talk

A long call or a visit. Your business, your customers, how you like to work, and what “good” looks like in six months. I’ll also tell you if I’m not the right fit.

02

You get one honest quote

Fixed, itemised, with a realistic schedule. If you get a cheaper quote elsewhere that includes the same things, take it — I’d rather lose the job than pad the price.

03

We agree how you’ll pay

Split payments, a deposit and balance, or a monthly plan by Direct Debit through GoCardless — whatever suits the state of the business.

04

You see everything as it happens

Regular updates without asking. If a date moves it’s by days, and you’ll know first.

05

It launches, and I stay around

Hosting, support and a monthly allowance of changes, plus SEO or ads when you’re ready to grow.

The promise

Four things you won’t get from me

Most of the businesses I work with came from another agency, and the same few frustrations come up every time. So, plainly:

No hard sell

The first call is a conversation. If you don’t need what I do yet, I’ll say so and tell you what I’d do instead.

No twelve-month contracts

Monthly work is month to month. If it isn’t working, you stop — no notice period, no penalty.

No invoices for mystery work

A plain-English note every month: what was done, what moved, what’s next. Clicks, positions, enquiries.

No lock-in

Domain, site, content, ad accounts, analytics — all in your name from day one. Leave whenever you like; I’ll hand over properly and help with the move.

How a quote is put together

How a quote is put together

There’s no price list, because no two jobs are the same — but there’s no mystery either. Every quote is fixed and itemised, so you can see what each part costs and take anything out. Websites are quoted per project; SEO, ads and hosting are monthly, month to month. Deposits are typically half up front and half on completion; if cash flow is tighter than that, a monthly plan by Direct Debit spreads it. The number on the quote is the number on the invoice.

Fixed quotes

One number, itemised, no extras unless you ask for more.

Monthly, month to month

SEO, ads and support carry on because they’re working, not because of a contract.

Pay in a way that suits you

Split, deposit and balance, or Direct Debit through GoCardless.

The questions people ask about reports

Alex Shute Photography

Photography, video and drone shoots across Hampshire, from product shots to aerial footage. Alex works with me on client sites and is offered at cost, because good photography changes everything else. alexshute.co.uk

Southern Solutions

Hampshire IT support, connectivity, cyber security and VoIP, all in-house, for businesses across the south coast since 2008. If you need email, Microsoft 365 or a network sorting alongside a website, this is who I recommend. southernsolutions.co.uk

Specialist studios

Fifteen years of industry contacts for the bigger productions: animation studios, printers, signwriters and vehicle wrappers. I source them at a good price and manage them for you.

I don’t pretend to do everything. When a job needs a photographer or an IT company, I bring in people I’ve worked with for years. You still deal with me.

The questions people actually ask

Typically half up front, half on completion — or a monthly plan if that suits better.

Yes, by Direct Debit through GoCardless. Plenty of clients pay for a website over several months.

Rounds of changes are built into every quote, and nothing launches until you’re happy. Nobody’s ever been stuck with a design they didn’t like.

That’s most of my clients’ story too. Ask me what I’ll report each month and what happens if it doesn’t move — the answers are on this page.

Most of my clients are one to ten people. The quote is sized to the business, not the other way round.

Most clients stay on the hosting and support plan: updates, backups, and thirty minutes of changes a month from the person who built the site.

Book the first conversation

It’s the most useful hour of the whole project, and it’s free.

No hard sell. No contract to sign today.

“Came to us as a recommendation and didn’t let us down. Excellent communication, service and support. Really helped us whilst we tackled all the elements of moving our business.”
